The Times Clean Air Campaign
The Times’ ‘Clean Air for All’ Campaign set bold targets designed to help save lives and reduce new cases of lung and heart disease. The campaign has conducted new analysis, and put pressure on the Government to include measures to address air pollution in the Environment Bill, campaigning for a legally binding deadline to improve air quality everywhere in the UK with other wins including a ban on the sale of bags of coal and wet wood for domestic fires banned in England under plans to remove a huge source of air pollution.. With more than a dozen front page stories on air pollution since launching its own manifesto, several Times leaders and almost 100 other articles have been linked to the campaign. It also resulted in the landmark judgement in December 2020 on clean air that ruled Ella Kissi-Debrah's death, who had severe asthma, was due to the failure to reduce pollution levels to legal limits.

Fabulous Had Our Fill campaign
The Sun’s Fabulous brand launched the ‘Had Our Fill’ campaign to crackdown on unregulated cosmetic fillers as millions of women put themselves at risk of permanent deformity and lethal infections by having facial fillers.
The campaign also helped to raise awareness to help women make safer, more informed choices, with Fabulous is calling for:
- fillers to be made illegal for under-18s
- a crackdown on social media sites plugging fillers
- a Government-backed central register for practitioners with accredited qualifications.
Working closely with MPs and celebrity supporters, Had Our Fill had many wins including fillers and botox being made illegal to under 18s and lip filler ads targeting teens being banned, with ministers praising the Sun campaign.

The Sun on Domestic violence
The Sun has worked closely with Women’s Aid over a sustained period of time, helping to raise awareness of issues and helping shape the Domestic Abuse Bill. MP Jess Phillips thanked The Sun for campaigning for the law to protect migrant women from domestic abuse, and Domestic Abuse Commissioner, Nicole Jacobs highlighted The Sun for helping to keep the pressure on politicians to make the legislation much stronger.
This follows years of powerful and hugely successful campaigns such as ‘Give me Shelter’ campaigning for new refuges, running the stories of ALL the women who had been killed in a year highlighting how domestic violence can affect anyone no matter their location, race or class.
The campaign was backed by Conservative MP Theresa May and Labour MP Jess Phillips who both said this work led to the law change, and with George Osborne calling it the campaign that grabbed his attention the most that year.

The Sunday Times Justice for Families
The Sunday Times’ Justice For Families campaign has uncovered a scandal hidden behind the closed doors of social services departments and the family courts. It has been revealed how heavy handed child protection had become in the wake of Baby P, leading to many more innocent families being separated from their babies.
The campaign has prompted a national review of policies on child protection responses to bruising in infants and has informed a government review into the children’s care system.
