The 20 lucky students have been selected for the third News Academy Summer School.

From hundreds of youngsters aged 18 to 25, the final 20 budding journalists from England and Scotland have been chosen following a writing and interview selection process.

The summer school is a free intensive training programme at our News Building HQ from August 21-26.

Students get the opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade from the very best in the business – from hunting out stories and writing them, to editing and publishing their own newspaper.

The 20 selected are: Joseph Archer, Lincolnshire; Mason Boycott-Owen, Yorkshire; Jordan Davies, Essex; Emily Dinsmore, London; Kyle Farrell, Hertfordshire; Max Harris, London; Katherine Hodgson, Renfrewshire; Jarrad Johnson, Nottinghamshire; Susannah Keogh, Hertfordshire; Isaan Khan, Manchester; Izzy Lyons, London; Arthi Nachiappan, Nottinghamshire; Daunish Negargar, West Midlands; Joshua Renken, London; James Roberts, Oxfordshire; Charlotte Srahan, Cambridgeshire; Hussain Syed, Essex; Paige Tabone, Hertfordshire; Jonny Whitfield, Cheshire and Ellen Wilkie, Tyne and Wear.

This week also saw the annual Young Journalists’ Academy Summer School visit The News Building.

The Canary Wharf-based week-long event for aspiring teenage journalists at London state schools called in to take part in a News Academy-arranged mock police press conference.

The scenario involved an investigation into a top footballer being found dead at his luxury flat, with students interviewing the DCI and writing copy to a strict deadline. Feedback was then given on their stories.

Students have also visited Google, Reuters, BBC and the London Evening Standard during the summer school.
