News UK
The Sun will offer all UK schools the chance to obtain free copies of the paper's World War I pullout, in a move described by the Education Secretary Damian Hinds as a "great initiative."
The 24-page, detailed Sun pullout traces the history of World War I through stories of heroism and bravery, from the "Canary Girls" of Britain's munitions factories to Sepoy Khudadad Khan, the first South Asian to win the Victoria Cross.
Capturing both the most high-profile figures of the time as well as the lesser-known tales of everyday sacrifice, the pullout depicts the true scale of the Great War.
Other pages include eye-witness accounts from the battlefields of the Somme and Ypres, capturing the horror of war from the perspective of those on both sides of the conflict.
Teachers and school staff can email compdept@news.co.uk with the subject line 'Centenary WWI pullout" and request either a downloadable digital copy or a printed copy.
Preview images of the pullout can be found here.
Damian Hinds, the Education Secretary, said of the offer:
"These 100 stories are a brilliant way of making the lives of 100 years ago come to life. Remembering the stories and sacrifice of those that fought in the Great War, alongside the causes and consequences of the conflict can help us not repeat the mistakes of the past.
"This great initiative captures every aspect of World War One, from many different perspectives, providing a useful resource for anyone who wants to learn or teach about the war."
Andy Silvester, Head of PR at The Sun, said:
"We're proud of the work that went into producing the pullout, and we hope that in our own small way we can ensure that these century-old stories can be told to a new generation."
