The Sun and ITV are delighted to announce the return of A Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards, which will take place at London’s National Maritime Museum on Wednesday 11 December.
Also known as The Millies, the awards recognise the excellence and sacrifice made by Britain’s Armed Forces.
Leading celebrities from film, television, sport and music will attend the gala evening honouring the achievements of our Servicemen and women. Sponsored by Britain’s bestselling newspaper and hosted in association with ITV, ten awards will be presented to celebrate outstanding performances and contributions in the military.
The exceptional ceremony, now in its sixth year, will be hosted by Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden.
The awards have been judged by a panel which includes celebrity judges Jeremy Clarkson, Andy McNab, Holly Willoughby and Lorraine Kelly supported by four former military chiefs; General Sir Mike Jackson, Admiral Lord West, Field Marshal Lord Guthrie and Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Squire.
Since inception in 2008 The Millies have become one of the most important events dedicated to honouring the immeasurable contribution made by the Servicemen and women who serve Britain at home and abroad. The lavish star-studded evening has become established in the annual events calendar.
The event has been attended by senior members of the Royal Family including The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. Guests have included David Cameron and his wife Samantha, David Beckham, Jimmy Carr, Gordon Ramsay, Dame Helen Mirren, Kevin Spacey, Frank Lampard and Christine Bleakley, Jerry Hall, David Walliams, Ricky Gervais and Myleene Klass.
David Dinsmore, Editor of The Sun, said: "It is a tremendous honour for us to be hosting the sixth Sun Military Awards in 2013. The Millies offer us a unique opportunity to recognise the excellence of Britain's Armed Forces and pay tribute to their courage and dedication. These remarkable awards have shown us the extraordinary qualities demanded of our Servicemen and women and we are proud to acknowledge all they do."
Judge Amanda Holden said: “I am honoured to be back presenting The Millies for its sixth year. A Night of Heroes gives us an opportunity to publicly pay our respects to the remarkable service men and women who go beyond the call of duty."
Jamie Oliver said at last year’s gala: “It’s completely integral to pay our respects to the people that have done extraordinary things in extraordinary circumstances. There is not a job like it; we expect a lot and it’s really important that we give these guys a pat on the back and I think that’s what’s so brilliant about the Millies.”
The winners of this year’s awards will be announced at the glittering ceremony organised by The Sun newspaper. The Millies are part of The Sun’s ongoing support for the UK’s Armed Forces.
A Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards is produced by Twofour and RDF Television, a Zodiak Media company.
