The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky grows reach and…

Virgin Radio UK has delivered its second RAJAR results since Chris Evans joined the schedule in January, and again the show and the station deliver record reach and listening hours. The results - which cover April to June  2019 - underline Chris’s continued impact, as listeners are tuning in and staying through the day.

The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky secured 1.1 million weekly listeners across the Virgin Radio network (up 6% QonQ), accounting for 5.35 million weekly listening hours (18.9% QonQ). The Breakfast Show plays across Virgin Radio, Virgin Anthems and Virgin Chilled.

The Virgin Radio network continues to see record growth, attracting 1.67m weekly listeners (up 16% QonQ) and 11.02m weekly listening hours (up 29% QonQ). Presenters including Eddy Temple-Morris, Kate Lawler, Tim Cocker and Sam Pinkham have all delivered record results in their slots.

Chris Evans said: “Six months in, and we couldn’t be happier. Amazing guests, the best bands and certifiably the greatest listeners around.”

The Breakfast Show continues to drive broadcasting innovation, partnering with Sky to create the UK’s first ad break-free breakfast show on commercial radio. Highlights in the quarter included special outside broadcasts from the New Forest, the Isle of Wight, Cannes and Monaco, for Sky’s F1’s exclusive coverage and to celebrate season two of Sky Atlantic hit show Riviera. Guests have included Tom Hanks, Michael Caine, Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher and David Blaine, while the show has seen live performances from Bastille, Divine Comedy and Jamie Cullum.

Bob Suppiah, Sky’s Director of Promotions & Partnership Marketing, said:  "Our creative approach gives Chris the freedom he needs to give the listeners what they want – and you can see from the audience numbers that it’s working! The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky remains a unique listening experience and I’m excited with the plans we have for the months ahead.”

Wireless CEO Scott Taunton said: “I’m delighted with these RAJAR figures, which mark a second quarter of record reach and listening hours for both the Breakfast Show and the station, which shows reach up 266% year-on-year. Chris and the team - including our partners at Sky - are continuing to set the pace in the breakfast slot.

“We’re also building out audiences and listening hours across the daily schedule with our talented roster of presenters, including Eddy Temple-Morris, Kate Lawler, Tim Cocker and Sam Pinkham. Two RAJARs in, and we’re well on our way to becoming the UK’s leading commercial digital station.”
