Sunemployment roadshows: Bigger, bolder and better

Bigger, bolder and better than ever before, this year’s Sunemployment Roadshows were described as ‘the best yet’ by host Jeremy Kyle.

The TV star said : “The atmosphere crackled and the chemistry was just right. There was a perfect mix of all the key ingredients: real people, real jobs, down-to-earth employers and brilliant advice from true inspirations that do this country proud.”

In the wake of the Brexit vote, The Sun’s giant annual jobs event proved Britain is open for business as 40 top firms vied to hire Sun readers.

Roadshows were held at Newcastle on June 29, Manchester the following day and in London on July 1.

More than 200 readers landed jobs on the spot with a further 1,400 winning work trials and interviews at leading firms including John Lewis, Tesco, Metrobank, JD Wetherspoon, National Express, Thomas Cook, Travelodge and Costa Coffee.

But this year the job fairs concentrated on those struggling most in their jobsearch, with additional support for the long-term unemployed, disabled jobseekers, former Military staff and ex-prisoners. A record number of charities and professional organisations were on hand to help alongside business leaders, CEOs and HR bosses from supporting firms.

There were tears of emotion as readers found work, some after up to 10 years on benefits. As Kyle said: “When they are at their best, these Roadshows aren’t just about getting the chance of a job, sometimes they can provide someone a second chance in life.”
