Celebrities and politicians poured praised on The Sun’s Military Awards, the Millies.

London’s Guildhall was the venue on January 22 for the eighth annual Millies which were hosted by ITV News at Ten anchorman Tom Bradby.

Guests included singing legend Rod Stewart, Superman actor Henry Cavill and TV’s The Apprentice star Baroness Karren Brady.

All the award nominees began their day at a Downing Street reception with PM’s wife Samantha Cameron before going to the Guildhall.

There were nine awards: most outstanding soldier, best reservist, overcoming adversity, support to the Armed Forces, most outstanding sailor or marine, most outstanding airman, best unit and two judges’ special recognition awards.

News UK staff at the Millies included CEO Rebekah Brooks and COO David Dinsmore.

Baroness Brady said:

What a privilege to attend these fantastic awards. Well done to The Sun for recognising servicemen and women.

Good Morning Britain TV presenter Susanna Reid remarked:

Fantastic to be there – an inspirational and important event.

MP Dan Jarvis, a former Para, said:

Privileged to attend the Millies and meet so many decent, funny and brave members of our Armed Forces.

The Millies even embraced a marriage proposal as Kristine Gaffney said ‘yes’ to most outstanding soldier nominee Lance Corporal Gary Crane.
