Record day as talkSPORT broadcasts live from new home

On Thursday March 7, talkSPORT launched from The News Building, joining sister stations Virgin Radio UK and talkSPORT 2.

Across the day, the station featured a record amount of talent including England national squad manager Gareth Southgate, Olly Murs, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, John Motson, Lawrence Dallaglio, Mark Noble, Ian Holloway, George Groves, Phil Neville, Laura Woods,  Theo Paphitis, Matt Prior,  Claire Rafferty, Jake Wood, Josh Widdicombe and Ricky Gervais. Between them, they have won:

  • Nine olympic medals
  • 21 football titles
  • 28 boxing accolades
  • 160 national rugby caps
  • Two Ashes victories
  • Seven BAFTAs
  • As well as earning one knighthood and selling 13m records

Breakfast host Alan Brazil kicked off proceedings at 6am with a bumper show, with co-hosts Ally McCoist and Dean Saunders - and an early appearance for Chris Evans, ahead of his own Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio with Sky. Alan returned the favour with a cameo slot on Virgin Radio later in the morning.

Formally opening the studios this morning, Wireless CEO Scott Taunton said: “Today is a landmark day, not only for talkRADIO but for News UK. Our stable of leading media brands are already collaborating: Alan joining Chris Evans on air this morning is just the beginning. The future’s bright, with the best brains and broadcasters now in The News Building.”

Alan added: “These studios will do just fine for me! We have the best views, the best news and the best chat around the clock. I’m looking forward to welcoming the best sporting talent to share the talkSPORT couch with me and wake up sports fans across the country.”

News UK acquired radio group Wireless in 2016. Virgin Radio made the move to the London Bridge HQ in January with the launch of The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, ad-break free thanks to a partnership with Sky.
