About
News UK
As the 2015 Advertising Week Europe comes to a close, News UK has enjoyed a hugely successful week showcasing the business’s all-star line-up of talent and promoting the power of newspapers to advertising executives across the continent.
Among the highlights was a discussion between two of the biggest names in British journalism - Jeremy Paxman and The Times Editor John Witherow. The pair discussed how the news industry has changed, how the role of professional journalism is developing, and which stories, interviews and high profile leaders they remember best.
Also popular was a political discussion chaired by News UK’s Director of Communications Guto Harri. Harri was joined by a group of Westminster heavyweights for a fascinating and highly amusing look at what we can expect during the General Election campaign.
Satirist Rory Bremner introduced the discussion with a hilarious series of impersonations, before Conservative Dr Liam Fox MP, Deputy Chief Whip Lord Newby from the Liberal Democrats and the Labour Party’s David Blunkett MP gave the audience their insights and predictions on the race to Number 10.
Another highlight of the week was a star-studded debate about what makes a good sports ambassador, hosted by Editor of The Sun David Dinsmore. Dinsmore was joined by Footballer Rio Ferdinand, World Cup winning rugby star Lawrence Dallaglio, Olympic swimming champion Rebecca Adlington and David Beckham’s brand strategist Simon Oliveira who discussed how sports stars build their own brands and the commercial value that can bring.
News UK’s Newsroom Daily newspaper was extremely well received, with 5,500 copies distributed each day, while the Newsroom Cafe proved to be a highly popular hub throughout the week.
Paul Hayes, Managing Director, News UK Commercial, said:
Advertising Week Europe has provided us with the perfect platform to demonstrate why newspapers remain an unparalleled opportunity for advertisers.
Much like our papers do, we pulled together some of the brightest stars from across the worlds of news, celebrity, sports, politics and business to investigate some of the most pressing issues of the day.
We see Advertising Week Europe as one of the key annual events in the UK media calendar and the ideal opportunity for our own talent to showcase their industry-leading expertise.
