Today, Wednesday 16th September, News UK celebrates a year since the official opening of its headquarters in London Bridge. The company's move to The News Building and the signing of a 30-year-lease cemented its commitment to producing world-class journalism for the long-term.
To mark the anniversary, News UK has created a special photography exhibition – A Year in News – to showcase the most memorable moments from the past year. The exhibition, displayed at The News Building, includes iconic front pages, images of News UK events and photographs taken by staff.
News UK employees submitted pictures taken in and around their headquarters via Instagram and Twitter using #AYearInNews. There were over 350 entries for the competition.
The winning picture featured the then Sun editor David Dinsmore getting soaked in the ice bucket challenge at the title’s 5@5 event. Dinsmore is now the Chief Operating Officer.
Sun Perks Site Manager Zoe Dedes, took the winning snap and won dinner for two at the nearby Aqua Shard.
The winner was announced by News UK CEO, Rebekah Brooks, at a special preview event at The News Building on Tuesday 15th September.
Guests at the event included Bermondsey and Old Southwark’s new Labour MP Neil Coyle, Southwark mayor Dora Dixon-Fyle and the Dean of Southwark, the Very Rev Andrew Nunn.
Brooks praised the “amazing” competition entries while News Corp CEO Robert Thomson, who was also in attendance, described the building as “unique”.
