New Appointments on The Sun's Showbiz Team

Britain’s best-selling newspaper The Sun has announced three new appointments on the title's Showbiz desk.

Current Bizarre Deputy Editor, Lia Nicholls, and Showbiz Editor of The Irish Sun, Jennifer O'Brien, have been made joint editors of Bizarre following Gordon Smart’s recent appointment as Editor of The Scottish Sun. Stuart Pink has been promoted to Deputy Showbiz Editor. All three will report into The Sun’s new Head of Showbiz, Dan Wootton.

Showbiz is a key pillar across all of The Sun’s platforms and the Showbiz team has a formidable reputation for publishing agenda setting exclusives. The new structure is part of a multi-million pound investment to strengthen the core journalism and production of Britain’s best-selling newspaper.

Lia Nicholls has been Deputy Editor of Bizarre since 2010 and has been integral in ensuring it retained its position as the number one, must read, showbiz column for exclusive celebrity news and gossip. Lia began her career at The Independent as Editorial Assistant, before joining The Sun as a Showbiz Reporter in 2006.

Jennifer  O'Brien is an award-winning Showbiz journalist who will be joining the team in London following six years at The Irish Sun. Jennifer, who started out as a Feature Writer before moving across to the Showbiz desk in 2008, won ‘Showbiz Story of The Year’ at the National Newspapers of Ireland Awards in 2011.

Stuart Pink has been appointed to the newly-created position of Deputy Showbiz Editor. Stuart started as a news reporter at Redhill and Reigate Life before joined The Sun Online team in 2007. Stuart then moved across to The Sun's Showbiz desk in 2010.

David Dinsmore, Editor of The Sun, said: "The Sun is home to some of the industry’s most talented people and I am delighted that Lia, Stuart and Jen have all been promoted. They are exceptional talents and ideally placed to ensure the paper’s exclusive showbiz content gets even better.”

Dan Wootton, Head of Showbiz, said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be heading up such a talented team that will keep The Sun number one for showbiz news and features. Going forward, Stuart will support me managing showbiz coverage across all of The Sun's platforms. Lia and Jen will bring a fresh and exciting new approach to Bizarre, while I will also continue to write my own column in The Sun on Sunday."
