Predominantly driven by EU Referendum coverage, all News UK titles outperformed the market in month-on-month volume sales.
On Saturday 25 June, post-EU Brexit vote, an additional 501,000 copies of national newspapers were sold compared to the previous week. Of those additional 501,000 newspapers, 100,000 were copies of The Times which was praised as being the most “evenly balanced” of all UK newspapers, by both the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and the Press Gazette “Brexitometer” survey.
At a time when the longevity of print is being called into question, the ABC results show encouraging signs of a nation turning to newspapers for authoritative comment and analysis.
Rebekah Brooks, CEO of News UK, said:
It is clear from these very encouraging increases in circulation that people have turned to newspapers to make sense of the news agenda. Trusted, authoritative news brands have played an important role over the last month of political upheaval and we are proud of the world-class journalism our titles offer. It is also good news for advertisers that their adverts were seen in 2.6m more copies last month with no debate about the viewability of print ads which offer 100% viewability.”
