In the build up to Cheltenham, Sun Bets has answered the big question: Can former Team GB sprinter Dwain Chambers beat a racehorse over 100m?
Dwain Chambers has raced against the biggest names in sport.
But now the former Team GB sprinter, 38, has taken on his toughest opponent yet - a thoroughbred racehorse.
Sun Bets pitted Chambers, who was on the track when Usain Bolt set the current 100m world record in 2009, against Heat Storm at Wolverhampton Racecourse in the build up to the Cheltenham Festival.
Incredibly, Chambers beat the beast in a time of 10.36secs.
Chambers said: “I was actually quite nervous. As an athlete I wanted to win and ran as fast as I could for as long as I could.”
So what does it feel like to go up against one of nature’s most intimidating animals?
Chambers, who reached the 100m semi finals in the 2012 London Olympics, added: “In the first part of the race I wasn’t really aware of the horse because I was concentrating on getting out as quickly as possible and maintaining my form.
“In the latter part of the race I could hear the horse’s hooves, the deep panting and I felt the presence of the him near me.
“Dipping over the line for the win was exciting and a relief. Beating the horse was an unexpected bonus and a real sense of achievement.
“It was a privilege to take part and I will look back on the whole experience very fondly in years to come.”
