Chat show host Matthew Wright is joining talkRADIO with his new weekday afternoon programme, The Matthew Wright Show, starting next Monday September 10.
Airing Monday through to Friday, between 1 and 4pm, Wright’s new magazine-style show will focus on current affairs in the UK and around the world. Spanning across politics to the arts, to breaking news and everything in between, Wright’s new topical show will feature a series of regular guests, including long-time collaborator and TV critic Kevin O’Sullivan, to review and dissect the news of the day.
Matthew Wright said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining talkRADIO at this fascinating time in history when there’s so much to discuss and debate. My new afternoon show will see me team up with Fleet Street legend, critic Kevin O’Sullivan - two real-life chums who don’t agree on anything!
“Free of the restrictions imposed when I was on the goggle box, I’m looking forward to full-on phone-ins and laughs a plenty, not just with talkRADIO’s growing army of loyal listeners, but with an array of celebrity guests too. It will all kick-off at 1pm on Monday 10 September when I’m planning on not just discussing the news, but making it too.”
Wright’s new show will replace the slot previously occupied by Jamie East. East will continue on at the station with his new weekend show, East World, on Sundays from 1 until 4pm.
talkRADIO programme director Dennie Morris added: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Matthew Wright to talkRADIO. I’ve worked with Matthew previously and know from first hand experience the passion and commitment he brings to everything he works on. I know our audiences are going to love his new show.
“In addition to his new Sunday show, which will be brilliant, we’re looking forward to hearing more from Jamie East across talkRADIO,” Morris added.
Wright’s arrival follows Jeremy Kyle’s triumphant return to the airwaves at talkRADIO last month, with his new Saturday show, The Jeremy Kyle Radio Show.
Audiences can tune into The Matthew Wright Show from Monday 10 September, 1-4pm, available on talkRADIO DAB, online via talkRADIO.co.uk and via the iOS and Android apps.
Wright fronted The Wright Stuff on Channel 5 on weekday mornings for 18 years. Before launching his widely successful television career, Wright started out in newspapers working as a showbiz reporter at The Sun and later with a column in The Daily Mirror.
