The Irish Sun’s half-price Tournamental campaign got off to a flying start with senior staff handing out promotional papers to commuters in Dublin and Belfast.
The initiative went live in papers in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland on Saturday 28 May.
Irish Sun Editor Kieran McDaid, Marketing Manager Laurie Kelly, circulation chief Jarlath Dolly and News Ireland General Manager Oliver Keenaghan took to the streets on the eve of kick-off to help hand out 10,000 specially wrapped papers in Dublin on Friday, with 2,000 distributed by promotional teams in Belfast.
The Republic’s price cut will mean the paper is just 50 cent seven days a week.
In Northern Ireland, whose qualification for Euro 2016 will be their first major tournament in 30 years, the price will be 25p Monday to Friday, 35p on Saturday and 50p on Sunday.
Irish Sun Acting Editor Kieran McDaid said:
It was great to get out and meet readers and hopefully convert a few more. The whole island of Ireland – north and south – is gearing up for Euro 2016 and it’s great to be a part of the excitement as the build-up intensifies.
We’ve always been about fighting for our readers and giving them value so this is a great chance to bring them all the best news, politics, showbiz and sport at an incredibly low price, and to entice a whole new cohort of readers in to give the paper a try. We’re sure they’ll like what they see.”
