The Sunday Times Scotland announces today that Kevin Pringle, former strategic communications director for the SNP, will be writing a new weekly column for the paper.

His first column will appear this Sunday, to coincide with the opening of the party’s autumn conference in Aberdeen.

Pringle, who left his party post in August, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the political world, after spending many years advising former First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond and his successor Nicola Sturgeon. He played a central role in both the campaign for Scottish independence and May’s General Election.

Kevin Pringle, Sunday Times Scotland columnist, said:

“I am delighted to be joining The Sunday Times as a new columnist. The paper has a wide reach, and a readership that reflects a diversity of opinions on Scotland and its future. It is an excellent opportunity to communicate views to an engaged audience across a range of topics.”

Jason Allardyce, Sunday Times Scotland editor, said:

“It’s a terrific coup to have Kevin joining us to stimulate debate and share the unique insights he’s gained from many years at the heart of Scottish politics.

This new addition to our editorial team follows the recruitment of Scottish business correspondent Michael Glackin and Scottish rugby correspondent Mark Palmer earlier this year to expand the title’s Scottish content, strengthening its position as the biggest-selling and most widely read quality newspaper in Scotland.”

The most recent National Readership Survey showed that readership of The Sunday Times in Scotland was up 10% year on year, making it the market leading Scottish quality title on a Sunday.
