News UK is celebrating a double triumph in yesterday’s (Tuesday) AITO Travel Writer of the Year Awards.

The prestigious awards from the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) were held at Central Hall in Westminster.

Liz Edwards from The Sunday Times Travel Magazine won the Travel Writer of the Year over 1,500 words category for her article on Spain, while Francesca Angelini of The Sunday Times emerged victorious in the Young Travel Writer of the Year section for her piece on Iceland.

The Sunday Times Travel editor Steve Bleach said:

Frankie has the qualities of a great travel writer: a sharp eye, a neat turn of phrase and a streak of fearlessness. Her stories get better and better – and we’re looking forward to running many more in future.”

Aaron Miller of The Times was runner-up in the Travel Writer of the Year under 1,500 words category with his Wyoming article. Chris Haslam from The Sunday Times was placed third in the over 1,500 words section with a piece on Nepal.
