About
News UK
This month marks the one-year anniversary of News Corp’s £114m acquisition of digital video ad tech company Unruly.
In the 12 months since the acquisition, Unruly has seen incredible growth, launching eight new products and taking on more than 100 new staff across 20 different locations worldwide.
Unruly, whose ad formats have been rolled out across 35 News Corp titles, has also continued its expansion by opening new offices in Japan and Melbourne.
News UK CEO Rebekah Brooks said:
It’s been a winning partnership. Unruly have revolutionised digital and social media advertising around the globe and they have helped us to deepen our relationship with readers and advertisers.
We have always been pioneers in our field so combining our world-class journalistic heritage with their cutting-edge technology has helped us to accelerate the commercial success of our digital products.
They have also done work for our own brands, driving hundreds of thousands of views to the Sun Bets video on their launch weekend.”
Unruly co-CEO Sarah Wood said:
We have achieved so much together in the last 12 months, and the whole News UK team have been extremely supportive as we’ve rolled out Unruly ad formats across their titles.
In the coming months, we’re looking forward to launching more publisher features, such as Unified Demand, and more powerful data segmentation in order to effectively leverage News UK’s valuable audiences and contribute to growing digital ad revenues.”
Unruly and News UK have teamed up on a number of successful, award-winning digital campaigns over the past year, including the popular video game franchise Call of Duty with The Sun and The Sun Bets, for which Unruly delivered 100,000+ views on the first day of the Premier League football season.
A video campaign run in partnership with The Scottish Sun to deliver the Scottish Government’s ‘Eat Better Feel Better’ campaign went on to win Best Commercial Innovation accolade at The Drum Online Media Awards.
Unruly also partnered with The Times and the NSPCC in February to launch a video campaign to help parents speak to their children about radicalisation.
Unruly and News UK paired up at Cannes Lions this year, presenting a new vertical video ad format for mobile phones. Other innovations since the acquisition include a Future Video Lab for brands and publishers and the launch of In-Article, a premium video ad format which enables News titles to monetise article pages even when there is no video content.
