Sum up what you do at talkSPORT?
I work across talkSPORT’s live sports coverage. You will most likely catch me travelling to and from a football ground or in a cold gantry somewhere in the UK.
I predominately work across our Gameday output, in and around our Premier League/EFL/England coverage. At times, it can vary between boxing and other sports.
What’s been the highlight of covering The Euros?
The highlight for me was England winning against Denmark. I felt a real sense of pride for the country, the team on the pitch and from a personal point of view, my team in the gantry and back at the HQ. It was my first time covering the Euros as talkSPORT’s England producer, so witnessing them make it to the finals was amazing.
What’s the most interesting/challenging part of covering the Euros?
The most challenging was getting the sound right, especially when you’ve got over 60,000 fans screaming in Wembley across the games. You’re essentially asking commentators to shout over that surge of noise during goals and so, it’s all about trying to get the right balance. Thanks to talkSPORT’s brilliant engineering team and sound engineers on-site including Adam Reed and James Larvin, we had the perfect balance between atmosphere and commentary.
The travelling aspect of my role can be challenging. In a coronavirus pandemic, travelling involves a lot of testing, paperwork and being across travel updates. For example, there were eight of us in Italy covering the game, getting everyone back to Wembley for a back-to-back semi-final after only being in a country for 72 hours was a big task in itself.
Sum up the last month in a sentence?
An experience I’ll never forget.
England reached a major tournament final for the first time in 55 years, how does it feel to be involved in covering such a historical moment?
Special. A very proud day for me, my family and friends.
