Dan Quinnell

Assistant Producer

We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the working day: so what was on the menu this morning?

I had poached eggs for breakfast.

Sum up what you do at News UK in the shortest sentence possible.

I’m an Assistant Producer making news bulletins for TalkRadio TV.

Lay a bit of context on that?

I decide which stories to cover and how we’re going to cover them. Then I write scripts, edit video clips together and clip up sections from speeches and interviews. I also create and commission the graphics to make sure our output looks great.

What attracted you to the role in the first place?

I’ve always wanted to work in TV and the prospect of joining a new channel really excited me.

What’s the most interesting/challenging part of your job?

The most interesting part of my job is when there is a big breaking story, and I’ve got to keep on top of things to make sure everything is updated hour-by-hour.

Last book, film, binge watch and sounds you consumed?

I read Emily Maitlis’ book Airhead recently. My partner finally made me watch all of the Star Wars films which I loved and my last tv binge was Showtrial on BBC, which was properly good.

What is your most treasured possession?

My most treasured possession is my cat, who I got a year ago during lockdown, even if I can’t sleep properly most nights because he’s running around.

Last holiday destination?

My last holiday destination was a trip to Cornwall but I’m (hopefully) going abroad for the first time since the pandemic started in a few weeks. I’m heading to Copenhagen.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Persevere and keep pushing to get where you want to go.

What one bit of advice would you give someone wanting to do your job?

Work quickly and read a lot of news.

Tell us something not many people know about you…?

I’m currently training to run a marathon.

Who would be your three Fantasy Dinner Party guests? And why?

My dream dinner party guests would be Adele, Lewis Hamilton and Alex Turner.
