Scott Taunton

Scott Taunton was appointed CEO of News UK Broadcasting in April 2021, having been Wireless CEO from November 2016 following its acquisition by News UK.

As News UK Broadcasting CEO, Scott oversees four world-class national radio brands – Virgin Radio UK, talkSPORT, talkRADIO and Times Radio. He is also heading up the launch of TalkTV, a major new voice in UK media, bringing the best of our journalism to the screen, led with a prime time international show presented by Piers Morgan. The channel will be streamed live and made widely available on all platforms, including linear TV and OTT.

Scott also oversees a number of market-leading Irish stations, alongside a rapidly expanding digital audio and podcasting arm, and digital businesses Simply Zesty and Tibus.

Scott has led Wireless through a period of rapid growth characterised by innovation and investment in talent and sports rights. His signing of Chris Evans and Graham Norton to Virgin Radio UK Breakfast Show delivered innovative industry-first ad break-free partnerships with Sky and Waitrose.

In June 2020 he oversaw the successful launch of Times Radio, which delivered strong debut RAJAR listening figures, posting a weekly reach of 637,000 listeners.

Born and raised in Australia, Scott has had a long career in the media industry across radio, television and digital media. He was general manager of DNA Internet until March 2000, when the company was acquired by Northern Ireland-based broadcaster UTV Media. He became chief executive officer of UTV Radio and was appointed to the board of UTV Media plc following the acquisition of Wireless in 2005 by UTV. Scott was awarded a Radio Academy Fellowship in 2014.
