New role overseeing all aspects of the UK’s biggest women’s lifestyle brand
Rachel Shields (pictured), currently Assistant Editor of Sun Online, has been appointed to the new role of Assistant Editor, The Sun with overall responsibility for the Fabulous brand.
Reporting directly to The Sun’s Editor-in-Chief Tony Gallagher, Rachel will be responsible for setting the strategic editorial vision across the Fabulous brand, working with the talented magazine, daily and digital Fabulous teams, led by Sinead McIntyre, Joely Chilcott, Sarah Barns and Hannah Ferrett.
Fabulous is one of the nation's most exciting and innovative women’s lifestyle brands, with a daily cross-platform audience of millions. It showcases aspirational and accessible content as a glossy Sunday magazine, an essential section of Britain's top-selling newspaper and an unmissable ingredient of the country’s most popular commercial news website.
As Assistant Editor of Sun Digital, Rachel has played a major role - working with Sun Digital Editor Keith Poole - in ensuring that The Sun is the UK’s number one online newspaper brand, growing the Fabulous digital audience as well as running features and comment across the site.
She has also led a number of successful Sun Online campaigns, including the End of the Line campaign, raising awareness of the links between cocaine use and mental health problems and the You’re Not Alone suicide prevention campaign. Prior to joining The Sun in 2017, Rachel spent a decade working in senior print roles for the Daily Mail’s Femail.
Tony Gallagher said: “Fabulous is an integral part of The Sun. Since its relaunch in 2017 the Fabulous print, digital and social teams combined have created something really powerful: the UK’s largest women’s lifestyle brand. And I believe there is far more potential to unlock, putting our millions of readers at the heart of everything Fabulous does.
“This is one of the most exciting opportunities in women’s lifestyle journalism, and I’m delighted to appoint Rachel to the role. She has an absolute understanding of the Fabulous brand and has been responsible for driving significant growth in our digital women’s lifestyle content, as well as campaigning for those issues which are so important to our readers.”
Rachel added: “Fabulous is the most vibrant and compelling voice in women’s lifestyle media. So it’s a privilege to be offered this new role, working with an enormously talented team, to entertain, inform and inspire millions of UK women.”
