Wireless’ The Wave and Swansea Sound have teamed up once more to run their award-winning Don’t Dance Alone Campaign.

With more than 2 million people over 75 living alone in the UK and many not speaking to a single person for an entire month, the radio stations are organising a raft of events to bring together people from across the generational divide and help defeat loneliness.

The six week campaign culminates on on November 18 after the first official #DontDanceAlone week which will be happening from November 12 until November 18. The week is jam packed with intergenerational activities and events put on by schools, businesses, community groups, venues and individuals with the station’s out and about across the week visiting them all.

The campaign has been endorsed by the Welsh Goverment, Swansea Council, the Older Persons’ Commissioner, Arts Creative Council and a host of celebrities including Michael Sheen, Olly Murs, Joanna Paige, Raksu and many more.

The Wave’s Kathryn Lane said: “This campaign is all about getting the younger generation to spend more time with the older generation with over 50 events planned. Most of the events are incorporating dance, so there’ll be lots of tea dance parties, dancing, music and  singing. It’s going to be a really special week.”

Last year’s initiative picked up the Campaigning Journalism Award at the IRN Awards in London in March.

People are welcome to host their own #DontDanceAlone events, alternatively join in the the social media campaign and next week upload a video of themselves or their children dancing with parents/grandparents/elderly friends and neighbours with the hashtag #DontDanceAlone.
