PM BACKS EVENT Prime Minister Theresa May hands out an award at The Sun Millies Paul Edwards

Prime Minister Theresa May and Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson heaped praise on The Sun at the title’s Millies awards yesterday (Wednesday).

London’s Banqueting House was the venue last night for the annual Sun military awards to honour Britain’s heroic servicemen and women.

Penny Lancaster, husband Rod Stewart, Frankie Bridge, Jorgie Porter and Bear Grylls were among stars giving out awards ranging from overcoming adversity to the innovation accolade.

The PM said at the tenth awards: “I pay tribute to The Sun for making an event dedicated to the bravery of our Armed Forces a firm fixture in our national calendar.

“It is truly humbling to hear about the achievements of each and every nominee this evening. You are all, regulars and reserves, remarkable and inspiring.”

Mr Williamson said: “I’m so incredibly grateful to The Sun, because without them doing what they have done none of you would be here.

“The innovation, the idea behind the Millies, is fantastic. We need to be saying to the British people, the work, the effort, the resource, your day-to-day lives is making a difference to their lives.

“You are shifting the dial in so many different ways.”

Before the awards, Mr Williamson hosted a special reception for the nominees at Number 10 Downing Street.
