Sun takes the Grand Prix at the 2017 NewsAwards

The Sun took home the coveted Grand Prix award at the 2017 NewsAwards last night (Wednesday).

Judges commented:

"This year, for the first time, the Grand Prix was awarded to The Sun – one of the first occasions that a major newsaward category has gone to a red-top. With more than six million readers, The Sun demonstrated to judges how it has amplified both its print and digital offerings achieving its objective of reaching new audiences with innovative and exciting new products affirming The Sun’s position as a leading UK media brand. And, most importantly, The Sun was able to show evidence of commendable commercial success."

At a ceremony to celebrate the best in news media print, technology and business innovation, Newsprinters Broxbourne emerged victorious in the National Newspaper Printer of the Year category for the second year in a row. Sister plant Knowsley was highly-commended.

Other award success came for The Sunday Times, which was crowned the Sunday Newspaper of the Year. TNL executive managing editor Robert Hands collecting the trophy and commented:

“I’m delighted that the judges at the NewsAwards recognised that Sundays really do start with The Sunday Times by awarding the paper Sunday Newspaper of the Year. It’s a tribute to the immense efforts of editor Martin Ivens and all of the team on the paper.”

The Sun's monthly Popcorn magazine with Sky Cinema was named Commercial Advertising Initiative of the Year.
