A stellar rugby presenting line-up has been announced for talkSPORT’s radio coverage of the British & Irish Lions tour, boasting nearly 350 caps and 15 Lions appearances between them.
Following November’s announcement that talkSPORT was the exclusive radio broadcaster for all 10 matches of the tour, the station has assembled an unrivalled team of expert commentators, reporters and pundits.
World Cup winning rugby star Ben Kay will be a lead co-commentator for all three Tests against the All Blacks, with fellow former Lion and Welsh legend Shane Williams also a key part of talkSPORT’s coverage for the Test series and other tour matches.
They will be joined by one of the greatest Lions of all-time and four times Lions Head Coach – Sir Ian McGeechan; former Lion & Irish centre Gordon D’Arcy and ex-New Zealand scrum-half Justin Marshall to give the Kiwi view on all the action. The team is completed with talkSPORT’s Weekend Sports Breakfast host Georgie Bingham; talkSPORT’s lead rugby commentator Andrew McKenna and talkSPORT’s rugby correspondent Russell Hargreaves.
The talkSPORT team will guide fans through the tour as Warren Gatland’s side look to beat the All Blacks in a series for only the second time with over 90 hours of coverage across talkSPORT and talkSPORT 2.
As well as live commentary of all the games, talkSPORT 2 will have post-match phone-ins and other coverage to get rugby fans as close to living with the Lions as they can.
The first match kicks-off on June 3, with talkSPORT on hand to take you through every twist and turn of the five-week tour.
Liam Fisher, Controller for talkSPORT & talkSPORT 2 said: “In 2013 we proved a lucky omen for the Lions with our exclusive coverage of their victorious tour of Australia and hopefully we can repeat this four years on. Through two national sports radio stations we will give the Lions more coverage than ever before so it promises to be an exciting Summer.”
Ben Kay said: “The Lions tour of New Zealand is the toughest in World Rugby. The next best thing to being out there facing the Haka is to be up in stands commentating on it. I can’t wait to be part of the talkSPORT team that will be with the fans every step of the way.”
Sir Ian McGeechan said: “Being involved with the Lions tour both as a player and coach gives me a unique insight to the demands and delights of the tour which I look forward to sharing with talkSPORT’s listeners.”
Fans can tune in for all the action on talkSPORT and talkSPORT2 on DAB, via our free online streaming service at talkSPORT.com or on 1089 or 1053 AM (talkSPORT).
