Sun Sports photographer Dickie Pelham was presented with Football Picture of the Year trophy at the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards in London last night (Monday).
His winning picture was of England keeper Joe Hart’s acrobatic save in a World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.
Pelham said: “I’m still in total shock but when I took that picture of Joe, I knew it was a big moment. I could not wait to see a TV replay of it. The acrobatics of him to save it was brilliant.”
Pelham has been Sports Photographer of the Year four times, Photographer of the Year and has also won Barclays Picture of the Year.
At the awards, former England skipper Mike Atherton of The Times was named top cricket writer for the third year in a row.
Further success came The Times’ way with chief sports writer Matt Dickinson chosen as best sports columnist.
Legendary Sunday Times rugby writer Stephen Jones got the gong as best rugby journalist.
There was also success for our Wireless Group’s talkSPORT station, who won the radio sport live broadcast category for their coverage of the Euro 2016 football championships in France.
