A documentary produced by The Sunday Times security correspondent Richard Kerbaj has landed another major award.
Televised last October on Channel 4, 37-year-old Richard produced the moving account of Sally Evans in My Son the Jihadi.
In June 2015, her 25-year-old son Thomas from High Wycombe – who went by the name Abdul Hakim after converting to Islam – was killed in Kenya fighting for terror group al-Shabaab.
The programme charts Sally’s pain at her son’s radicalisation through to the aftermath of his death.
After bagging a Bafta in the best single TV documentary category in May, My Son the Jihadi has won the best TV programme in the 2016 Sandford St Martin Awards for religious broadcasting.
The awards presentation ceremony was held at Lambeth Palace yesterday (June 8).
My Son the Jihadi also landed the best single documentary accolade at the 42nd Broadcasting Press Guild Television and Radio Awards in March.
