The Sunday Times to celebrate 10,000th issue

Screen Shot 2016-05-06 at 12.19.41The Sunday Times will celebrate its 10,000th issue on Sunday 8 May with a four-page supplement showcasing some of the exceptional journalism that has made it Britain’s best-selling quality newspaper.

Packed with illustrations, a timeline and links to famous stories, Sunday Times writers pay homage to the boldness and innovation of the paper since it was founded in 1822.  The Sunday Times was the first British newspaper to launch a separate review section, the first to launch a standalone magazine supplement, and the first to launch a dedicated business section.

Writers such as Hunter Davies – who joined in 1961 – will recall the Sunday Times they first knew, and how it has changed to offer, for example, a huge breadth of coverage on the arts, on literature and in-depth interview profiles.

Jonathan Calvert, editor of the famous Insight investigative team, which first launched in the 1960s, will look back on the importance and practice of investigative journalism – from the campaigns on Thalidomide, to the shaming of Lance Armstrong and the recent Fifa Files.

Martin Ivens, Editor of The Sunday Times, said:

Every week, The Sunday Times provides the most comprehensive span of any newspaper. We reach more readers, on more subjects, than any of our peers. This is a moment to celebrate the best of The Sunday Times, and how our history has shaped the paper we are today.
