News Scotland scooped five prestigious accolades at last night's Scottish Press Awards, with a hat-trick for The Sunday Times Scotland and two big wins for The Scottish Sun.

The Sunday Times' Mark Macaskill did the double winning both the Journalist of the Year and Reporter of the Year gongs.

There was also success for the Scottish Sun as they were named Team of the Year for their agenda-setting coverage of the M9 crash scandal.

Chief Writer Matt Bendoris also beat rivals to the title of Arts and Entertainment Journalist of the year at the event held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow.

Editor Gordon Smart said: “I’m extremely proud of the entire team.”

Sunday Times contributor Jeff Holmes bagged the Sports Photographer of the Year award with our runners up including The Times Scotland’s James Glossop for News Photographer of the Year and Christine Lavelle of The Scottish Sun for Interviewer of the Year.

The results come on the back of some impressive ABC results for News Scotland who have outperformed the market on all titles and grown market share in every case.

The Times Scotland edition's sales have increased 30% year on year with an 8.5% increase for The Sunday Times Scotland. Meanwhile the gap between The Scottish Sun and competitor the Daily Record is now over 55,000, the highest ABC lead the title has ever seen.
