  • The News Academy is News UK’s flagship programme for aspiring journalists
  • It is hosting its annual Summer School in London between 23rd-28th August
  • Top talent from The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times will be sharing their knowledge and tips with 20 aspiring young journalists from across Britain

The News Academy – News UK’s flagship programme for aspiring journalists - is hosting its second annual Summer School, a free week-long intensive training programme for students aged 16 to 18 from across UK and Ireland.

Twenty talented students have been selected from hundreds of applicants for the opportunity to spend a week at the London headquarters of The Times, The Sunday Times and The Sun and learn the tricks of the trade from the best in the business.

As well as attending master classes with News UK’s top talent - from The Sun’s Head of Showbiz Dan Wootton to Editorial Director of The Sunday Times Eleanor Mills - the students will be busy sourcing scoops from Premier League football matches, political interviews and celebrity photo shoots to put together their very own 16-page newspaper under the watchful eye of Editor of the Irish Sun Paul Clarkson and News UK CEO Mike Darcey. The invaluable experience is completely free, with accommodation, food and evening entertainment included.

As a finale to the week, the students will see the fruits of their labour being printed at News UK’s Broxbourne print site to be able to head home with a copy hot off the press.

Director of Communications for News UK, Guto Harri, said:

“We passionately believe in the future of Britain's famously robust and engaging journalism. The News Academy Summer School is our way of ensuring that our brightest young people get the encouragement and inspiration they need to become the next generation of indefatigable newsmakers.”

Summer School 2014 Graduate, Robert Bruce, added:

“The News Academy was one of the best experiences of my life. I learnt so much about the industry, and newspaper production. We created a newspaper that was read by a number of newspaper editors and even the Prime Minister was seen with a copy!”
