Faye Carruthers

England Correspondent

We chat to talkSPORT’s FAYE CARRUTHERS about strong women, duvets and synchronised swimming.

Sum up what you do at News UK in the shortest sentence possible.

I talk about football.

Lay a bit of context on that.

I host talkSPORT’s GameDay coverage of the late Premier League match on a Saturday followed by a full-time phone-in. I’m the station’s England football correspondent and I host Women’s Football Weekly on talkSPORT 2 – the only dedicated women’s football show on national radio.

What attracted you to the role in the first place?

I get paid to talk about football, what’s not to love!

What’s the most interesting/challenging part of your job?

I love chatting with our listeners – you never know what they’re going to to come out with (in a good or a bad way!).

What are the three most important things on your working agenda today?

Match preparation; record a voiceover for a client and coffee!

Last book, film, binge watch and sounds you consumed?

Binge watching All or Nothing, the Tottenham Hotspur documentary and have just completed Peep Show. Watched Forrest Gump for the millionth time, last read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and listen to anything and everything music-wise and spend most of my life listening to property, business and sport podcasts!

Who is your role model? And why?

Any strong woman who doesn’t take no for an answer.

What is your most treasured possession?

My duvet.

Who would play you in the film of your life?

Lorraine Chase.

Last holiday destination? And why?

Skiing in France far too long ago – what more reason than a big group trip, skiing, drinking, more skiing, more drinking!

You’ve won ten million on the Lottery – what do you do?

Pay off all my family’s mortgages, buy more property, finish building my garden studio, invest in Luton Town FC and then disappear to the Maldives for a month.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Be kind.

What one bit of advice would you give someone wanting to do your job?

Be patient, be kind and be a sponge, learn everything you can from the ground up and put in the hard graft, it will eventually pay off (that’s five, sorry!).

Tell us something not many people know about you…?

I used to be a synchronised swimmer and my voice features on a hardcore trance track.

As the working day comes to a close, who would be your three Fantasy Dinner Party guests? And why?

Eric Morecambe (for laughs and Luton Town chat); Claudia Winkleman (because she seems like fun) and Tracy Neville (because she is a wonderwoman and I want to be better at netball!).
