About
News UK
We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the working day: so what was on the menu this morning?
Chocolate twist from Starbucks and a filter coffee with oat.
Sum up what you do at News UK in the shortest sentence possible.
I look after the press, publicity and reputation of The Sun and the people that work there.
Lay a bit of context on that?
I’m only on my fourth week but it’s essentially telling the good story of The Sun to a wider group.
What attracted you to the role in the first place?
It sounds cliche but I had worked in TV PR for a while and I really wanted a change and a fresh challenge. As soon as I saw the role, I knew The Sun could offer that.
When I joined, it was a reminder of why I wanted to work in the media in the first place – it’s that feeling of being at the centre of everything.
What’s the most interesting/challenging part of your job?
Being in the newsroom. It’s fascinating to see how everything comes together and how journalists come up with fresh ideas, stories and exclusives every day.
Who is your role model? And why?
I don’t really have role models but I have always admired the resilience of Madonna. I like that she can pick herself back up and carry on (sometimes quite literally).
Also, I admire the courage and bravery of Marie Colvin.
What is your most treasured possession?
Photos, Birthday and Christmas cards.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
To always be honest. It sounds obvious but it’s not always an easy thing to do. People really value honesty, and it stops you from getting into trouble.
What one bit of advice would you give someone wanting to do your job?
Meet people and don’t be afraid to pick up the phone.
