Sarah Collins

Executive Producer

We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the working day: so what was on the menu this morning?

Three eggs, mushrooms, mozzarella and spinach.

Sum up what you do at News UK in the shortest sentence possible.

I am an Executive Producer at talkSPORT; I work closely with content makers and on-air presenters.

Lay a bit of context on that?

The landscape of radio is changing daily with the emergence of social media – it’s no longer a linear medium. My role is to work with producers/ assistant producers and broadcast assistants, to manage the fast-changing workplace.

I also mentor new presenters, with many coming straight from playing elite football.

What attracted you to the role in the first place?

I’ve wanted to work in radio since the age of 12. It was a no-brainer to combine two of my passions (radio and sport) and work for the biggest sports station in the world. I’ve had years of experience in sports broadcasting. The role that I do now, is my dream job.

What’s the most interesting/challenging part of your job?

The most interesting/challenging part of the job is to share radio knowledge, teach new techniques and develop the team to the best of their ability.

Also, working out how to best deliver feedback. Everyone receives it differently right?

What are the three most important things on your working agenda today?

1) OB production risk assessment!
2) Being back in the studio for evening shows after a 4-week break.
3) Getting through my endless ‘to-do list.

Who is your role model? And why?

Maya Angelou for her contribution to the feminism movement and her inspirational poetry.

Also, Dolly Parton, whose life story inspires me because of where she came from, what she has achieved, and how she did it!

Who would play you in the film of your life?

Catherine Tate – not as nan though!

You’ve won ten million on the Lottery – what do you do?

I would first ensure my Junior Netball Club, founded in Manchester (Dominoes JNC), would be sorted financially for the future.

I’d buy my dream house/cars before divvying up the rest between friends.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

A winner never quits and a quitter never wins.

My Dad always told me “look your best, you never know who you will meet that day.”

What one bit of advice would you give someone wanting to do your job?

Only do it for the right reasons, the reasons that matter to you.

Enjoy it – if you don’t enjoy it, do something else.

Tell us something not many people know about you…?

I met Muhammad Ali in Manchester

Who would be your three Fantasy Dinner Party guests? And why?

Dolly Parton, Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey – imagine the energy from that group! I would learn so much and come away inspired, plus, I think there would be plenty of laughs.
