About
News UK
We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the working day: so what was on the menu this morning?
A croissant from GAIL’s bakery.
Sum up what you do at News UK in the shortest sentence possible.
I research and design user-friendly digital experiences across features and devices.
Lay a bit of context on that?
I work on the acquisitions squad, designing experiences that increase subscription conversion and retention. Aside from that, I help contribute components to Newskit.
What attracted you to the role in the first place?
The opportunity to do research on mass and with quantitative methods. Plus, I’ve always enjoyed reading The Sunday Times magazines.
What’s the most interesting/challenging part of your job?
Sometimes it’s challenging to decide on the best way to research something.
Also, getting precise data insights internally can be a challenge because the data I’m often looking for doesn’t always exist.
The most interesting thing is the user responses which can be hilarious and quite savage at times. Additionally, working on our design system Newskit has been pretty cool, though it’s far more in-depth than people would assume.
What are the most important things on your working agenda today?
Analysing some user research and planning team meetings to review designs.
Who is your role model? And why?
No role models for me, just people I really like… is Jessie Ware allowed?
What is your most treasured possession?
My iPhone – it’s just crucial to modern life. Also, my family (pet cat included). Is it bad that I mentioned them second?
Who would play you in the film of your life?
Natalie Portman because we were obviously separated at birth.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“The best thing about getting older is, you don’t care that you don’t care” – Mum 2005. I can confirm that this is very true.
What one bit of advice would you give someone wanting to do your job?
As long as you have the initiative to learn, then it doesn’t matter if you are not an expert.
