About
News UK
What have you been up to so far?
I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of a variety of different projects at talkSPORT. I’ve helped with off-air shows like One to One with Simon Jordan, Shirt Swap with Darren Bent, The Euro Social, also, the Being: Sol Campbell documentary which was an amazing experience.
I’ve been working with the social team – a big part of that role involves going out to different locations to get social content. I’ve visited Boxpark East Croydon for the England vs Scotland and England vs Germany game. I interviewed fans and filmed live reactions to the games including the two goals scored against Germany – it was insane.
What does an average day look like for you?
An average day at the moment is editing some of the off-air shows. Depending on what’s happening on that day with the Euros, I’ll be sent out of the office to either record some interviews or to get some social media content for the team to post and on some days I live stream.
Why were you attracted to journalism/broadcasting?
My Dad always tells me “the more you know, the more you’re worth.” I always want to learn new skills and broaden my knowledge of the media and its sectors. Journalism and broadcasting have always interested me. I love asking questions, I love talking to people and what better opportunity to craft and perfect my skills than working for an amazing station like talkSPORT.
What were you doing before you joined News UK?
I was working at a COVID-19 site in Ashford, testing HGV drivers leaving and entering the country via the tunnel or ferry. I worked 12 hour days, five days a week. I was basically standing in a massive car park, handing out lateral flow tests and filling out paperwork.
I loved the job. I met some amazing people and I believe it set me for this role as my main responsibility on the site was to talk to people and to ask them questions.
What motivates you?
Knowing that if I work hard, I can be a part of amazing projects that inspire and motivate people. Hard work also means financial stability. I used to be a removal man for around five years on and off, I always tell myself that if I don’t work hard, I’ll end up back at removals or somewhere else where I don’t want to be.
What are the biggest things you’ve learnt so far?
Sometimes being lucky is just as important as being good. Also, talkSPORT is the place where I want to work.
I’ve never had a job where I’ve gained so much knowledge and experience but I’ve also had so much fun. It’s honestly a treat to come to work every day and be surrounded by kind and talented people.
Tell us about your highlights on the job.
I think a lot of people didn’t really expect much of me in terms of a career, people thought I’d go through life achieving the bare minimum. The fact I’m able to work with these amazing people drives me because it allows me to continue to keep proving people wrong and to demonstrate what I’m good at.
In ten years, where do you see yourself?
I hope to have established myself in my field of work. I don’t know where exactly in the media but I look forward to figuring that out as my career progresses. I love the journey aspect of anything as there can be so many twists and turns.
