Times Radio today announces that it is bringing together former Shadow Cabinet Minister Gloria De Piero and award-winning Political Editor Tom Newton Dunn for a flagship Sunday morning politics show - G&T.
Reinventing the Sunday morning political format, G&T will bring together two very experienced Westminster practitioners, who will use their in-depth expertise on front line politics to give listeners a deeper insight into what’s really going on at the heart of power and how the decisions that affect the nation are made.
The first edition of G&T will broadcast from 10am to 1pm on Sunday 5 July, promising interviews with leading politicians that will break news, expert and informed opinion and a relaxed look through the Sunday papers. It will also have a regular People’s Panel of voters to track views outside the “bubble”, and a weekly slot introducing the large new intake of MPs. Gloria and Tom’s natural chemistry and range of guests will ensure it’s an entertaining and enjoyable way to spend a Sunday morning.
Gloria De Piero is a widely respected former Labour MP and member of the Shadow Cabinet. During her decade as MP for Ashfield, she served successively as Shadow Secretary of State for Women & Equalities and Shadow Minister at the Departments of Justice and Culture. Before being elected in 2010, Gloria was Political Editor at GMTV for seven years after working on the BBC’s On The Record programme. Gloria has presented Weekend Breakfast on BBC Radio 5 Live and Live from Studio 5 on Channel 5. Gloria will also present a regular Friday morning show on Times Radio.
Gloria said: “It’s not often that you get to be involved in launching a major new voice in national speech radio. Times Radio wants to do things differently, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with someone of Tom’s calibre to reinvent the Sunday morning political debate with G&T.”
Formerly The Sun’s award-winning Political Editor, Tom Newton Dunn was named Chief Political Commentator of Times Radio last month. TND worked for The Sun for 16 years, joining first as Defence Editor in June 2004 before becoming Political Editor in 2009. He has won five national newspaper awards and led The Sun's coverage of four general elections as well as Brexit. His candid interviews with President Trump made headlines around the world and he is a well known broadcast commentator on politics. TND will also present special political shows during major events, such as election nights and the Budget.
Tom said: "Gloria’s humour and ability to cut through the spin made her an MP whose opinions I always trusted. She is also a great broadcaster. Together, we have a big ambition to make G&T the must-listen Sunday morning show for political junkies and voters alike. I can’t wait to start work with her.”
Times Radio Programme Director Tim Levell added: “I’m delighted to be bringing these two amazing talents together for what will be a unique and refreshed perspective on the week in politics. This informed yet informal look at the week will be the radio equivalent of a relaxed Sunday morning brunch discussing the Sunday papers with your most clued-up friends.”
