Readers of The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times will from tomorrow be able to access video clips of the best moments of their favourite Barclays Premier League matches.
News UK’s titles will show clips of all 380 Barclays Premier League football matches on their digital platforms, including exclusive near-live clips on mobile devices, signalling a new era of enhanced digital content as the company consolidates its paid-for strategy.
The Sun has launched a special ‘Sun+ Goals’ app, available via smartphone and tablet, which will host the clips and include punditry from some of the top names in football, including Ian Wright and Terry Venables as well as the paper’s football writers. The app will be the first place to view Saturday afternoon’s action, with a full highlights package to view at around 17:15. In addition, users will receive two-minute half-time round-ups on their tablets and mobiles and five-minute packages for each match on The Sun website the day after the game. The Goals theme tune has been composed by UEFA Champions League composer Tony Britten.
The Goals app is available to all members of the new Sun+ digital entertainment package which launched earlier this month.
The Times and The Sunday Times subscribers will also be able to take advantage of the new ‘Goals’ football hub with clips available via thetimes.co.uk website and within the smartphone app. As well as near-live Barclays Premier League goals, members will receive live commentary, live tables and expert analysis from writers Matt Dickinson, Tony Cascarino, Rod Liddle and Gabriele Marcotti, further enhancing the award-winning sports content on both titles.
The three-year Barclays Premier League deal means The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times will be able to present up to eight 30-second clips of key moments during live matches via mobile devices (except for games played on Saturday at 3pm). Clips of up to 60-seconds from each game will also be available.
Mike Darcey, News UK CEO, said: “The Times Goals hub and The Sun Goals app will transform the subscriber experience across our titles. Members of Times+ and the new Sun+ will now have access to some of the most exciting moments in football across a range of platforms. As well as being an unbeatable offer, these packages will help secure a sustainable future for the distinct world-class and unrivalled content we provide.”
